Everything About Magnets

Sunday, December 21, 2008

Do you know that tape drives are composed of magnets? Essentially, a magnet is defined as a material which has the inherent ability to generate a magnetic field.  Supposedly, this field (invisible to the naked eye) is what makes it possible to exert a force that would attract and pull magnetized materials towards the magnet or to repel other similar magnets.  The permanent type magnet is described as capable of maintaining the magnetism of an object for an extended (in some cases, infinite) period of time.  This is made possible by the ferromagnetic materials making up the composition of the magnet.

In the context of industrial applications and usage, some of the more notable types of magnets used include:

Rare Earth Magnets Plug Style, Neodymium 35, 40, 50;

Magnets Cup Magnets with Spring Steel Clamp;

Permanent Magnets Cylindrical Three Pole, Blind Hole, Tapped;

Permanent Magnets Cylindrical Three Pole, Thru Hole, Reamed;

High Energy Flexible Magnetic Material 100 Foot Strip;

Rare Earth Magnets Two Pole Cylindrical, Parallel Pole, Tapped;

Permanent Magnets Rectangular Ceramic and Neodymium, Two Pole and Three Pole;

Rare Earth Magnets Shielded;

Permanent Magnets Cylindrical Two Pole, Without Hole; and

Permanent Magnets Pot Magnets among others.
