I just woke up. Been very tired this day. Been at our city hall (Antipolo City Hall) for the voter’s registration. Been there for NINE straight hours, standing there in the queue that seems to never move. Gawd! I could have killed all the people before me if I had been born nuts! Good thing I got my two old friends from high school to share with the same old predicaments: the line, the heat, the thirst, the noise, the rubbish system.
The registration process:
1. Fall in line. Wait for a staff that will traverse the line and will hand an index card (8×5 index card cut into four) with a number written on it. (Note: the line is in no shade, just plain under the sun)
2. The numbers are called ten at a time. The people with such and such numbers get to enter the “Comelec Office” that smells rats and rusts. They, again, fall in line, waiting for the issuance of the registration form.
3. People with registration form return to the line-with-no-shade-just-plain-under-the-sun. They fill out their forms and wait again (again?) for their turn to enter again (again?) the office-that-smells-rats-and-rusts for the verification of the form.
4. After the verification of the form, applicants will once again (again?) fall in line, but this time not in the line-with-no-shade-just-plain-under-the-sun, but on one side of the office-that-smells-rats-and-rusts for the picture-picture and fingerprints.
5. Registration done! Ching!
Last December I lined up for FOUR hours. When I reached the gates of our city hall a chaotic sight greeted me. The officials and the people were shouting at each other. The comelec people closed the registration at 12nn. DI AKO NAKAPAGREHISTRO. Badtreeeep
